Argentina vs Mexico

Football and in Day 12 of the World Cup, Greece, Nigeria, France and South Africa were all eliminated in group stage action.


This morning, Argentina secured maximum points after beating Greece 2-0.

And in the other Group B match, South Korea and Nigeria played to a 2-2 draw.


That allowed the Koreans to advance into the round of 16 with 4 points, as Greece finished with 3 and the Super Eagles return home with only 1 point.

With the draw, South Korea march on to face Group A winners, Uruguay.

Last night, the South Americans beat Mexico 1-0 to finish on 7 points.


And despite the loss, the Mexicans were 2nd on 4 points and will next face Diego Maradona's team.

As for France, they lost 2-1 to South Africa and finished at the bottom of the table with only 1 point and 1 goal scored in 3 matches.

But South Africa who were level with Mexico on points, fail to advance due to an inferior goal-difference.

Local fans can however take heart that Bafana Bafana ended their campaign on a winning note.

And after 4 games without a win, Geylang United beat Sengkang Punggol FC 2-0 at the Hougang Stadium last night.

The win puts the Eagles in 4th place and 9 points off the lead.

And speaking of the league leaders, Etoile FC look poised to lose several players in the S-league's current transfer window.

Khaled Kharroubi and Leeroy Anton have both left the French setup while captain Mathias Verschave and 2 others are also reportedly unsettled and on the verge of leaving.

But despite earlier reports, head coach Patrick Valle will remain till the end of the season.

Etoile FC with a 2-point lead over 2nd placed Tampines Rovers, are looking to be the 1st foreign club ever to lift the S-league trophy.
